MAUI JAPANESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

SUMMER EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The Maui Japanese Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a summer exchange

program with the Fukuyama Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Fifteen to twenty students will be accepted. To qualify the students must be current

Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in High School. The students and chaperons will

leave Maui on the 26^th of July and return on the 6^th of August. The Airline Company

and exact departure/return schedules are subject to airline seat availability. The cost

of the trip will be $1500 + spending money.

 So that everyone can get to know each other and feel more comfortable in their

home-stay, we will get together several times to study conversational Japanese

and culture. If you have studied or speak Japanese, you may be asked to help.

Tentative schedule:

Depart for Japan July 27

Arrive Osaka July 28

Travel by train, probably shinkansen, to Fukuyama.                                                              

(While in Fukuyama the students will have a home-stay. Due to the size of Japanese homes,

one family will have one student.)

During the day, we will all gather to sightsee and learn about Japan.

In the evening, the student will return to the home-stay.

Day trip to Hiroshima and Peace Park.

Overnight trip to Kyoto and Osaka. While in Kyoto we will see many

treasures of Japan. While in Osaka we will go to Universal Studio Osaka.

There will be an overnight at a Japanese style hotel.

Leave Japan and arrive Maui August 6.
